ANDREAS KÖHLER
Biography
Andreas Köhler studied cinematography at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and has worked as a cinematographer on numerous award-winning feature films and documentaries since 2007. In 2012, Köhler was awarded the German Camera Award, and in 2020 he received the Grimme Award for his camera work on “Dark Eden”.
He was responsible for the cinematography of the documentary “NoBody's Perfect” by Nico Glasow, which received the German Film Award in 2009, as well as the award-winning documentary “Schnee Von Gestern” by Yael Reuveny (DEFA Award/ DOK Leipzig, Best Documentary/ Haifa Film Festival).
Furthermore, he worked on numerous feature films, including “Wir Monster” (Toronto Int. Film Festival) and “1000 Arten Regen zu beschreiben” (Best Debut Tallinn Black Nights Festival).
In 2018, his documentary directorial debut “Global Family” won the Max Ophüls Prize. Köhler also works as a photographer and has exhibited internationally.
His most recent film projects include Sebastian Ko's feature film “Geborgtes Weiß” with Susanne Wolff and Ulrich Matthes, the six-part thriller series “Westwall” (director: Isabel Prahl), the mini-series “Bonn” (director: Claudia Garde) and “The Interpreter of Silence”, which was nominated for a 2024 Critics Choice Award as best foreign-language TV series.
