Jonathan Bepler
Biografie
Jonathan Bepler studierte am Bennington College in Vermont Komposition, Gesang und Musikperformance. Von 1985 bis 1996 war er Gitarrist des Glenn Branca Ensemble, mit dem er Tourneen durch Europa, die USA und Asien absolvierte. In dieser Zeit entstanden auch seine ersten Opernkompositionen, gefolgt von Klanginstallationen, Schauspiel- und Ballettmusiken.
Als Komponist tritt Jonathan Bepler international bei spartenübergreifenden Projekten, Installationen und Konzerten in Erscheinung. Zu seinen jüngeren Arbeiten zählen eine Videooper, produziert mit 600 Stimmen an der Akropolis in Griechenland, eine elektronische Ballettpartitur, uraufgeführt beim Tanzfestival in Montpellier, ein Stück für vier Klaviere und Geräuschemacher an der Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York sowie die Filmmusik für den Cremaster-Filmzyklus des Künstlers Matthew Barney. Mit der Choreographin Sasha Waltz arbeitete er erstmals im Jahr 2000 als Komponist für die Inszenierung S zusammen. Es folgten gemeinsame Projekte im Rahmen der Dialoge in Essen, Berlin und Bordeaux. 2003 entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit John Jasperse für das Festival International de Danse a Cannes das Stück California. 2006 führte das Ensemble Modern am Schauspielhaus Frankfurt sein Fascia (Konzertstück für Orchester, Kinderchor, Opernsolisten und foley artists) auf.
Gegenwärtig ist das gemeinsam mit Matthew Barney entwickelte Gesamtkunstwerk River of Fundament international zu sehen.
